Product Review: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish

Sally Hansen

Miracle Gel Nail Polish

Jewelmint Ring

I am a mani/pedi fanatic, and I spend WAAAY too much time and money getting my nails done at the salon. The problem is, I also have a terrible habit of picking at my fingers (gross, I know), so my nail polish never lasts very long. I discovered gel nail polish a few years ago, and absolutely love it! It stays on longer, my nails are less prone to breaking and chipping, and you don’t have to worry about messing up the polish because it’s completely dry before you even walk out of the salon! However, gels can be expensive, especially when you have Nail Polish ADD like I do, and want to change it every week (even though it has the potential to stay on for 2 weeks or so).

I had heard about at-home gel kits before, but you had to buy a UV light to dry the polish, and that was always a little off-putting. I never wanted to spend the money, nor did I want another contraption to fit in my bathroom.
I first heard about Sally Hansen Miracle Gel about a month ago, and knew I had to try it! What makes it so different from other gel products is that it doesn’t require a UV light. All you do is apply your polish and then a setting top coat…that’s it! Also, if you’ve tried gel nails before, you will know that getting them off can be a royal pain, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the polish was to remove.
I was pretty skeptical when I first brought this product home. It claims to last two weeks, but I had my doubts. I will say, it didn’t last two weeks on me (because of the nail picking…like I said…gross, I know.), but it did last WAY longer than when I do my nails with regular polish. I was pretty impressed with the consistency and smooth application. It didn’t dry instantly, but it did dry much faster than normal nail polish. There was very, very minor chipping that occurred after a few days, but for the most part, my nails looked pretty good all week.
The line comes with  a bunch of different colors, which is great for my Nail Polish ADD:-) I picked up the color  B Girl, which is a pretty mint color…and I love it! Some other colors I cannot wait to try are RedgyMalibu Peach, and Tidal Wave.
All in all, I will definitely be re-purchasing this product. Each polish is about the same price as regular nail polish, so the way I see it, if I’m going to be spending the money anyways, I might as well buy a polish I know will stay on longer.

I’m a sucker for anything mustard colored, so this Zara dress was a no-brainer.  I actually got this dress a few months back, but I believe Zara does this same shape in multiple shades. I know I’ve seen it in a green and sort of a brick red color. This is a great dress for day or night, and since it’s extremely flowy…you can eat anything you want and still be comfortable…yay!!

The necklace I am wearing is also from Zara, and you may still be able to find it in store ( they have re-stocked it a few times). The reason behind buying this piece was because I saw a picture of Kate Middleton wearing it, and I wanted to feel like a princess too..haha. No, seriously.

It’s that time of year again when I’m ready to transition into my fall wardrobe, but it’s still 80 degrees outside! The best way I’ve found to easily transition my outfits is by switching up the color palette. I’m still wearing my skater skirts and t’s, but instead of hot pink and bright orange, I’ve moved on to shades of navy, hunter green, mustard, and burgundy (my fav!). Check out the Pantone color report for Fall 2014 to see what colors you should be rocking this season!

This is such an easy outfit to throw on! I’ve actually had this skirt since college…which is a pretty long time, and it is still one of my favorites. I love the muted color palette.

I also just recently stumbled upon American Apparel’s Summer Shirt. I don’t usually like fitted t’s, but this one has such a nice fit. I really like the slightly linger sleeve length and the neckline isn’t too high.
I apologize for not posting as frequently recently. I’ve been trying to slowly update the blog, and that has taken up so much time. I’m going to bring someone in to help me, because trying to teach myself code hasn’t been working too well:-)
See you soon!

I saw this embellished skirt from Anthropologie a couple of months ago, but the price tag was a little too steep at the time ($188), so I waited. And then I waited some more. And then I bought it for under $50!! This is such a statement piece, and I love it!

A piece like this is obviously going to steal the show, so keep everything else simple. I love this Summer Shirt from American Apparel. I usually prefer looser fitting t’s, but this one is made from a stretchy, soft jersey material, and the fit is awesome.

I’m currently in the process of re-doing the blog and I’ve run into a couple of speed bumps…like not being able to currently upload  photos, so this may be the last post for a few days while I get all the kinks settled out, but I’m super excited to share all the changes with all of you!!

This Lady’s Lemonade: A Summer Cocktail…

Whiskey Cocktail Ingredients

Since it’s Monday, and we’re all tired and wishing it was still Saturday night, I’ve decided to talk about my favorite summer cocktail. I love anything with whiskey in it. When I was younger I thought  I was so cool and would only  order vodka-sodas, but now I actually like a little taste to my drinks!

One of my favorite drinks, at one of my favorite  local bars whips up delicious whiskey drinks, and I was inspired to try and make my own.

I’m calling this drink “This Lady’s Lemonade”. It’s sort of like a Whiskey Sour…but better.

Whiskey Cocktail

 This Lady’s Lemonade

To be honest, I just kind of eyeball everything, and make each drink to taste, but here is an idea of how to concoct this yummy drink.

1.5 oz. Bourbon

.5oz. Triple Sec

1 oz. Sweet and Sour ( I made my own, but you can totally just buy the mix pre-maid at the store. Directions down below)

Top off with club soda

Limes and Lemons

Sweet and Sour Mix

(You’ll definitely have leftovers…keep the homemade sweet and sour in your fridge for next time)

2 cups water

2 cups sugar

1 cups fresh lime juice

1 cups fresh lemon juice

Here’s what you do:

Combine water and sugar in large saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to boil. Cool syrup.

Mix syrup, lemon juice and lime juice in pitcher. Chill until cold. (Can be made 1 week ahead. Cover; keep chilled)

And also, just for fun…how cool are these ice spheres!? Eric picked these up knowing they’d be perfect for when we make cocktails at home. Old Fashioned’s are our favorites and these will be perfect!

Cheers to a good week, and a splendid rest of summer!

Beauty Steals and Deals

Drugstore beauty products

{1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB | 2. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo | 3. Maybelline Color Whisper | 4. Caress Evenly Gorgeous Exfoliating Body Wash | 5. OPI You’re Such a Budapest | 6. Simple Smoothing Facial Wash | 7. Revlon Colorstay Quad }

Today I thought I’d share some of my current favorite drug-store beauty products with you. I love going to Sephora and spending a boat-load of cash on fun new beauty products. I mean what girl doesn’t want to splurge on a YSL lipstick every now and again? But in reality, I’m living on a budget, and these bargain beauty products that I’ve picked out are some of my all-time faves that no expensive designer label could replace.

1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB - I’ve tried a bunch of higher-end BB creams, and this one from Maybelline remains my absolute favorite! It’s the perfect amount of coverage and feels light and fresh on the skin. When I wear it, it feels like there’s nothing on my skin…it’s the perfect product to throw on and go, and your skin instantly looks smoother and more ‘awake’. It also has SPF 30, which is great for protecting your face from those harsh sun rays!

2. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo- I stumbled upon this product a few months ago, and I’m so glad I did! I was looking for a cheap alternative to my more expensive Rehab clarifying shampoo from Lush (which is still one of my fave all time products), and this product certainly fit the bill. It does a fantastic job cleansing and supposedly rids your scalp of up to 70% of all the build-up from cosmetic products. This is really a ‘no frills, no thrills’ type of product. It doesn’t have much of a smell, and the packaging isn’t anything too special, but it gets the job done without irritating my scalp, and my hair always feel lighter and much cleaner afterwards.

3. Maybelline Color Whisper - I’ve used this lip product for a couple of years now, and it has easily become one of my all-time favorites! I’m not one to like too much color on my lips. I tend to go for more neutral / blush colored shades, which is why I immediately fell in love with this one. The formula is rich and creamy, and as for the color payoff, as you can guess by the name, it is a soft wash of color that I would describe as “your lips but better”. Lust for Blush is my favorite shade, but the entire Color Whisper line is great. I also really like this red shade. For those of you who may be a little more timid with color, it’s a great way to do a subtle red lip.

4. Caress Evenly Gorgeous Exfoliating Body Wash -Basically, this body wash just smells AMAZZZIINNGG, and it feels rich and yummy on the skin…therefore, I love it.

5.  OPI You’re Such a Budapest -This has been my go-to color all summer. It’s sort of a light lilac shade that feels super feminine and pretty. I also think it looks pretty snazzy when rockin’ a summer tan.

6. Simple Smoothing Facial Wash - I make it no secret that I have sensitive, acne prone-skin, and I’m always looking for products that don’t irritate my skin. This is a great gentle exfoliating scrub that won’t dry out your skin. I love it because it doesn’t use any fragrance and the exfoliating beads are actually rice granules, so they aren’t bad for the environment! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, watch this.

7. Revlon Colorstay Quad - Revlon eyeshadows are some of my favorites. I get a little worried over some drugstore brand eye products because I’ve had some irritate my eyes, but not Revlon’s shadows. This basic, neutral palette is one I use on a daily basis. The colors are buildable and can be used for a lighter day look, or a more intense brown smoky eye for the evening….and the color really does last all day.

My Go-To Outfit…

Chambray Shirt

H&M Shorts

H&M Shorts

Topshop Sandals

Madewell Shirt

{Top: Madewell (similar here) | Shorts: H&M | Shoes: Topshop | Bag: Zara}

This outfit might not be the most flashy, but it is definitely one of my go-to’s because it can easily be transitioned from day to night. For a day look, I would just switch out the heels and throw on a pair of loafers. These animal print ones from Steve Madden.… would be perfect! They add a bit more texture and color to this classic color palette. I’m also slightly obsessed with these Ravel sandals.

I just recently found these shorts at H&M, and I love them! Again, I think they are the perfect piece for a casual day look, or a more dressed-up night out. During the day, I would just pair them with a comfy tee and maybe some cool sneaks. Everyone should check out this really cool company called Bucketfeet. They make some pretty crazy shoes! For a more dressed up look, I love a good chambray, or even something with a little more color, like this printed top from Anthropologie.
I also can’t get over these heels from Topshop. Still one of my all time faves that instantly make any outfit that much better:-))
