This Lady’s Lemonade: A Summer Cocktail…

Whiskey Cocktail Ingredients

Since it’s Monday, and we’re all tired and wishing it was still Saturday night, I’ve decided to talk about my favorite summer cocktail. I love anything with whiskey in it. When I was younger I thought  I was so cool and would only  order vodka-sodas, but now I actually like a little taste to my drinks!

One of my favorite drinks, at one of my favorite  local bars whips up delicious whiskey drinks, and I was inspired to try and make my own.

I’m calling this drink “This Lady’s Lemonade”. It’s sort of like a Whiskey Sour…but better.

Whiskey Cocktail

 This Lady’s Lemonade

To be honest, I just kind of eyeball everything, and make each drink to taste, but here is an idea of how to concoct this yummy drink.

1.5 oz. Bourbon

.5oz. Triple Sec

1 oz. Sweet and Sour ( I made my own, but you can totally just buy the mix pre-maid at the store. Directions down below)

Top off with club soda

Limes and Lemons

Sweet and Sour Mix

(You’ll definitely have leftovers…keep the homemade sweet and sour in your fridge for next time)

2 cups water

2 cups sugar

1 cups fresh lime juice

1 cups fresh lemon juice

Here’s what you do:

Combine water and sugar in large saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to boil. Cool syrup.

Mix syrup, lemon juice and lime juice in pitcher. Chill until cold. (Can be made 1 week ahead. Cover; keep chilled)

And also, just for fun…how cool are these ice spheres!? Eric picked these up knowing they’d be perfect for when we make cocktails at home. Old Fashioned’s are our favorites and these will be perfect!

Cheers to a good week, and a splendid rest of summer!

Beauty Steals and Deals

Drugstore beauty products

{1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB | 2. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo | 3. Maybelline Color Whisper | 4. Caress Evenly Gorgeous Exfoliating Body Wash | 5. OPI You’re Such a Budapest | 6. Simple Smoothing Facial Wash | 7. Revlon Colorstay Quad }

Today I thought I’d share some of my current favorite drug-store beauty products with you. I love going to Sephora and spending a boat-load of cash on fun new beauty products. I mean what girl doesn’t want to splurge on a YSL lipstick every now and again? But in reality, I’m living on a budget, and these bargain beauty products that I’ve picked out are some of my all-time faves that no expensive designer label could replace.

1. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB - I’ve tried a bunch of higher-end BB creams, and this one from Maybelline remains my absolute favorite! It’s the perfect amount of coverage and feels light and fresh on the skin. When I wear it, it feels like there’s nothing on my skin…it’s the perfect product to throw on and go, and your skin instantly looks smoother and more ‘awake’. It also has SPF 30, which is great for protecting your face from those harsh sun rays!

2. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo- I stumbled upon this product a few months ago, and I’m so glad I did! I was looking for a cheap alternative to my more expensive Rehab clarifying shampoo from Lush (which is still one of my fave all time products), and this product certainly fit the bill. It does a fantastic job cleansing and supposedly rids your scalp of up to 70% of all the build-up from cosmetic products. This is really a ‘no frills, no thrills’ type of product. It doesn’t have much of a smell, and the packaging isn’t anything too special, but it gets the job done without irritating my scalp, and my hair always feel lighter and much cleaner afterwards.

3. Maybelline Color Whisper - I’ve used this lip product for a couple of years now, and it has easily become one of my all-time favorites! I’m not one to like too much color on my lips. I tend to go for more neutral / blush colored shades, which is why I immediately fell in love with this one. The formula is rich and creamy, and as for the color payoff, as you can guess by the name, it is a soft wash of color that I would describe as “your lips but better”. Lust for Blush is my favorite shade, but the entire Color Whisper line is great. I also really like this red shade. For those of you who may be a little more timid with color, it’s a great way to do a subtle red lip.

4. Caress Evenly Gorgeous Exfoliating Body Wash -Basically, this body wash just smells AMAZZZIINNGG, and it feels rich and yummy on the skin…therefore, I love it.

5.  OPI You’re Such a Budapest -This has been my go-to color all summer. It’s sort of a light lilac shade that feels super feminine and pretty. I also think it looks pretty snazzy when rockin’ a summer tan.

6. Simple Smoothing Facial Wash - I make it no secret that I have sensitive, acne prone-skin, and I’m always looking for products that don’t irritate my skin. This is a great gentle exfoliating scrub that won’t dry out your skin. I love it because it doesn’t use any fragrance and the exfoliating beads are actually rice granules, so they aren’t bad for the environment! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, watch this.

7. Revlon Colorstay Quad - Revlon eyeshadows are some of my favorites. I get a little worried over some drugstore brand eye products because I’ve had some irritate my eyes, but not Revlon’s shadows. This basic, neutral palette is one I use on a daily basis. The colors are buildable and can be used for a lighter day look, or a more intense brown smoky eye for the evening….and the color really does last all day.

My Go-To Outfit…

Chambray Shirt

H&M Shorts

H&M Shorts

Topshop Sandals

Madewell Shirt

{Top: Madewell (similar here) | Shorts: H&M | Shoes: Topshop | Bag: Zara}

This outfit might not be the most flashy, but it is definitely one of my go-to’s because it can easily be transitioned from day to night. For a day look, I would just switch out the heels and throw on a pair of loafers. These animal print ones from Steve Madden.… would be perfect! They add a bit more texture and color to this classic color palette. I’m also slightly obsessed with these Ravel sandals.

I just recently found these shorts at H&M, and I love them! Again, I think they are the perfect piece for a casual day look, or a more dressed-up night out. During the day, I would just pair them with a comfy tee and maybe some cool sneaks. Everyone should check out this really cool company called Bucketfeet. They make some pretty crazy shoes! For a more dressed up look, I love a good chambray, or even something with a little more color, like this printed top from Anthropologie.
I also can’t get over these heels from Topshop. Still one of my all time faves that instantly make any outfit that much better:-))

Photo Diary: Unique LA Pop-up Market

My new favorite thing to do is visit my local flea market and hunt for treasures for my home (and wardrobe!) Every Sunday Fairfax High School hosts the Melrose Trading Post, and after almost 10 years (!!!) of living in LA, I finally decided to stop in……I can’t believe what I was missing!! If you are someone who is decorating their home on a budget, then the flea market is definitely a must. There were so many beautiful pieces of re-furbished furniture that I wanted to buy, and all at really good prices. If you’re like me and a bargaining wimp, then bring your boyfriend along with you and let him do all the haggling.

Unique USA

Anyway, while at the flea market a few weekends ago, I heard about a pop-up market called, Unique USA. It’s the largest American-made, curated shopping event in the country, with over 350 hand-selected designers and artists on-hand selling their goods. Basically, my idea of the perfect day. As far as I know, these pop-up markets are held a couple of times a year, and Unique has expanded to New York and San Francisco. If you’re in the LA area and you didn’t get a chance to go this time, I would HIGHLY recommend checking Unique USA out next time they’re in town. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s fun just to go and look at all the beautiful things for sale…oh, and they have all kinds of delicious food…so you might wanna go for that too!!

Below are some of my favorite moments and vendors from the event…and an outfit of the day.

These handmade LUMEN soy candles smelled delicious!! I honestly could have just stood there all day sniffing each one, but my favorites were Grapefruit Mangosteen and Cedarwood Vanilla.

Donut Friend

This was the second stand we came too, and it was pretty much all over for me (so I thought) at that point. HOW YUMMY DO THESE LOOK??? These scrumptious looking donuts are from a company called Donut Friend. You could just order one of their amazingly delicious signature donuts, that include ingredients like bacon, sriracha, and chocolate mousse, or…WAIT FOR IT…you could customize your own (Think Yogurtland, but with Donuts!!) Check out this ridiculous menu! My mouth is watering just looking at this picture…

Folk Project Chairs

This was by far my favorite designer at the entire event. How gorgeous are these one-of-a-kind chairs from Folk Art?! And that ottoman? I am loving the exotic textiles. I only dream of having such beautiful pieces in my apartment.

ROD Creations

I kinda feel like succulents are having a moment? Loved this set up from RotdCreations

…and finally, we come to what I may consider the best part of the day. As we were leaving, we stumbled upon  a booth called, Mallow, Mallow, and obviously we couldn’t leave before seeing what it was all about.

Gourmet S’mores…that’s all I gotta say.

We got the classic combo, but they had a bunch of different flavors. One that looked particularly interesting was the The Canadian, which was a combo of maple mallow, Canadian Bacon, and Hershey’s Chocolate…nom nom!!

All this talk about donuts and s’mores has got me hungry, so until next time…Screen Shot 2014-07-30 at 12.38.57 AM

My two wardrobe weaknesses are stripes and polka dots. I just can’t get enough of either. This polka dotted blouse from H&M is a little sheer, but I still think it makes a great option for the office. You can totally just thrown a cami on underneath and you are good to go!

My style is super feminine, but I also like to feel laid-back. I’ve taken a more conservative top and shoes and paired them with these distressed jeans to give the overall look a more casual feel. I love a good boyfriend jean (Topshop makes some great ones!). They instantly take an otherwise more dressed-up look, and make it cool and casual. Plus, they’re super comfortable!! I particularly like them when I feel like I’m having a “fat day”, and the thought of a skinny jean makes me cringe!

I also wanted to take a quick minute to talk about my shoes!! These are the first pair of J. Crew shoes that I ever purchased. I’m not one to spend a ton on shoes, and the $300 price tag on these beauties was too much for me, but when I saw them on major clearance, I was like…’ok, yeah…it’s time.” With the sale price and my student discount, I was able to get them for around $98, which is still expensive, but much more doable. I have to say, there is something about a well-made Italian shoe that I cannot explain. The fit and feel is perfection.
If you haven’t ever slipped on an Italian shoe, just try it…you will feel the difference.

…and then I was interrupted by this ball of cuteness. I’m not usually a cat person (super allergic), but this  kitty was, i have to say, pretty adorable.

Me being all like “um, excuse me Sr. Kitty, but you are in the way of my photo sesh, can you please move…???”

Apparently he didn’t like it.

Anthropologie is one of those stores that if they are having a sale, I’m there!! I found this colorful tunic for half-off and thought it would be great for the office. I had seen it when it was full price and almost bought it back then, so I’m glad I waited! I’m fortunate that I work a block away from the beach. so something breezy and colorful is always a must.

In this post you will noticed I was joined by a little friend during our picture-taking session. I’m not a cat person AT ALL, but this guy came straight up to me and totally wanted to cuddle…it was actually pretty funny (he didn’t want to leave!).

Maybe he’ll moonlight in some of my pictures again soon…:-))

So, I realize it is still the middle of summer, but as most of you fashionistas probably know, stores are already beginning to stock for back to school and the fall/winter seasons (it’s crazy…I know). I found this gorgeous ochre colored sweater at H&M, and even though it feels a little more fall, than summer, I knew I had to have it, and style it up for you! I’ve paired it with a black imitation leather skirt, which makes the entire look feel very girly, but you could totally pair this cute cropped sweater with a pair of denim shorts and the look would automatically feel a lot more summery.

Check out these Pre-Fall looks…would you rock any of them??
